Vanessa’s Fine Chocolates offers an array of sweet treats including a white chocolate castle and scrumptious seashells.
Maybe you can’t deliver the fountain of youth this Mother’s Day, but we think a fountain of chocolate may work equal
wonders for long-term happiness. Just one of the many confectionary marvels created by Vanessa Wilks at Vanessa’s Fine Chocolates (vanessasfinechocolates.com; locations in Oldsmar and Dunedin), the 15-inch self-serve mini-fountain may be ordered in a choice of dark, milk or white chocolate capable of serving 10 to 15 people. Or maybe a very hungry family of four.
A far cry from the chocolate our mothers used to magically pacify our skinned knees and hurt feelings, only French, Belgian and Swiss chocolates pass muster with Wilks.
Among the indulgent choices she offers are the best-selling truffles — and Wilks’ favorite — with names straight off a bar menu: chocolate martini, cherry shooter, and white Russian. They are, as the names imply, derived from cocktails, just as the B-52 truffle is infused with Kahlua and Irish cream liquors. More sober choices include colossal strawberries covered in chocolate and an array of chocolate caramel turtles shaped like the real thing.
According to Wilks, we don’t need a special occasion to indulge: “Sometimes you just need to pamper yourself.”
Thanks, Mom. — Julie W. Martin
